Shounen Logs

If you cannot tell I love my things organised and considering the fact that I have watched far too much anime to save myself I believe it deserves its own folder and sub folders.

My list of animes was getting long and boring so I decided to break them down in terms of basic genres

Jujutsu Kaisen

Currently : Season 3

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of those breakout shows that everyone watches and loves and I'm a huge fan.Granted I started reading the manga in 2020 but I never expected it to catapult to mainstream media after the shibuya incident like it did then.Unfortunately this made some of the fans who began reading the manga ruin the experience a bit like the leaks and the reactions were fun on but I wished I could open social media without been blasted with spoilers and dudebros making awful theories and assumptions like what happened with Attack on Titan

Anyway the premise of the show is like amazing. The first time I read it I genuinely went like "Is this show about sin?"Cause its literally littered with religious connotations particularly buddhist ones and the show even made me do my own research on buddhism in general and I could see where the mangaka pulled most of their influence from.

Attack on Titan
★★★★☆
Attack on Titan

Currently : Finished

I got into attack on titan also during the lockdown. It was one of those shows that you literally cannot run away from in the anime community.Niggas act like Jehovah's Witnesses whenever one person even mentions it in the sight of others causally mentions anime recommendations. So I decided to watch it and..yeah I'm about to go door to door preaching the good news that is peak AOT writing.

Unlike it's counterparts,AOT tackles with wars (and yes most shounen is technically battle royale) and the consequences of wars to not only to an individual but to its society. The mixture of Norse Mythology and Nordic History which is generally pro-war and how imperialism can have lasting consequences for generations to come is intriguing and had me reading Norse Mythology (fuck Neil Gailman btw) and understanding Nordic's gruesome history of pillaging in a new light.

Unfortunately the reason I give it four stars is because some characters like Mikasa were not fully fleshed out to me.And as much as I would like to be like the mangaka doesn't know how to write women but this was seen in other male characters too like Bertholdt. When I think of well fleshed out female characters in the show,I think of Ymir,Historia,Gabi and even the hammer titan with her little lines seemed more fleshed out Unfortunately the female protagonist fell flat.Mikasa felt like she had no life, she simply lived and breathed for Eren.

Aside from that minor pet peeve the series is enjoyable and you will cry.I read the ending before my English exam and my friends watched me bawl my eyes out.

PEAK PEAK PEAK.I started reading this a year ago before the anime was announced and seeing everything come out and seeing people actually enjoy the show has been such a treat especially since it has such well made black characters that have their own ambitions and morals. The appreciation of Black American culture and aesthetics is enjoyable.

The religious connotations within the media has been interesting to see play out and the series isin't subtle about it from the unique power system and the motivations of the antagonist and protagonist of the series.I still don't have much to say about it except that I enjoy the series and I think Rudo is the most adorable new gen shounen protagonist I have ever seen.In spite of his harsh background and his clearly unhinged ideas of revenge and retailation, He still approaches the world with a certain curiousity and spark that most people eventually grow out of.I don't know maybe I'm projecting my own lack of spark in life but it's nice to see a child behave like a child in the genres they are trapped in.

Death Note

Death Note

Currently : Finished

I love Death Note.I mean mystery, drama and once again, religious connotations, that's my spice, that's what I inject into my head. And for a long time Death Note was a 5/5 stars for me.Rewatched it twice cause I wished I could relive the moments of suspense. But unfortunately, after ruminating in my brain and sitting still in my head for a few years,It unfortunately fell off the ranks.

Now don't get me wrong,it's still peak.I actually recommend it to anyone who has watched anime and would like a peer into the world of anime, but isin't the second act boring?Even in my rewatches I usually zoned out after L died cause he was the smarter of the pair and Light constantly had to maneuver around L and the constant cat and mouse game was the most interesting part of the series.Aside from that I didn't really stick to other characters as well.Misa was there at best and not at all interesting.and aside from Light,L and Light's father whose point of interest stems only from the fact that He was doing brain acrobatics trying to convince himself that his son is not Kira,no one sparked as big of an interest to me.Which is unfortuate but hey,at least the premise was intriguing enough to keep me pulled into it.

I haven't finished it.I'm literally on season 4 and honestly I don't think I'll pick it up again.I think it served its time for when I was hyperfixated on it and was asking everyone around me to watch it and they would surprisingly get as far as I did cause it was actually not that bad.

The series follows a quirkless deku who by the gods is bestowed a inherited quirk by the most legendary superhero of the current era,All Might(No spoilers, thats genuinely the synopsis.)I cannot for the life of me,tell you what teenage me saw in the series. It was fun and interesting but that was just it. I cared to an extent of the characters but there must have been something laced in the covid air for me to have fallen so deeply in love with a frankly mediocre series. It has to be the isolation.I can't think of anything else. Watch it if you're a teen otherwise the lustre quickly wears off after 5 episodes.

Record of Ragnarok
★★☆☆☆
Record of Ragnarok

Currently : Dropped

Guys I tried really hard to enjoy it.But the aura of the show is just so masculine that it immedietly put me off.Why does Aphrodite's tits need to be held by two stone men.Why are everyone's tits the size of cannon balls. It made me understand why weeb culture was so bullied and people who enjoyed it were usually ostracised cause if you can sit down and tell me you enjoyed this series then you're the problem.

Ignoring the previously mentioned the whole premise of the show is awful. The worldbuilding alone is god-awful (pun intended). So Ragnarok is esensially a Nordic myth between gods and men.If men win the majority of the battle they survive but if gods do they are eliminated from the universe indefinetely. The Valkyrie have allied themselves with humans.Okay now that you understand the plot this is a SPOILER WARNING! so prepare for the whole show to be spoiled for you.

My biggest gripe with the show is that it should have been centered only to European Paganic gods even the Christian God if the writers were feeling cheeky. But its not.Instead it has you believing that there is a council of Gods that is hierachial and apparently the leader of this coucil is Zeus. My own tribal gods rival fucking Zeus, the Christian God rivals Zeus like genuinely who the fuck is Zeus to be feared by all Gods?!?!? Not only that but you want me to believe a pantheon of supernatural beings allow themselves to be led by another God?!?Humans can barely tolarate their own leaders what makes you think supernatural beings wouldn't have egos higher that Mt.Everest.

My point is the writing is sloppy and everyone involved in the creation of this show should be revoked of their writing privledges.

Hunter X Hunter
★★★★☆
Hunter X Hunter

Currently : Season 6

I would see Hisoka memes pop up everywhere on my feed when I got into anime and at first I thought "Oh another show that sexualises young children under the guise of age or a joke" but I was bored and unemplyed at the time so I bit the bullet and watched it.Man what a journey and the only reason I have yet to give it five stars is because of its incosistency (Which I don't blame anyone.I am well aware of the mangaka's health issues and would rather someone be healthy than have their health dramatically decline over a period of time cause of work)

Hunter x Hunter can be loosely summarised as Gon's journey to meet certain goals however the sub-plots and the meta plots are so aganist that particular synopsis that I wouldn't describe it as anything rather than one of the best fantasy worlds since The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings.Gon reignited my spark for life and I mean that it the most serious way possible. He encouraged me to work hard and not give up (Yes a made up 13 year old boy gave me hope and I am not ashamed to admit it)like his zest for life is awe-inspiring and I genuinely hope I never lose that little spark of hope in me.I won't bore you with many details I actually want you to watch it so that you can understand how good the show is.

Haikyuu
★★★★☆
Haikyuu

Currently : on the movies

The beginning of the Depressing 20s cannot be discussed without any of us talking about the grip Haikyuu had over us.I mean from the adorably cringy dance animations to the fanfiction to the freaking ships!(We were all under mass psychosis and I will not hear otherwise.)But still if there was a series that deserved it,it had to go to the best sport anime I have ever seen especially in terms of plot and character development

Haikyuu follows Hinata and his journey to become one of the best volleyball setters in high school.I think volleyball is often female dominated (I was forced to play) and seeing someone display such ambition for something that isin't as male dominated as basketball or football was actually enjoyable. Not only that but the games were actually intriguing.I'm not the best sportsman largely because I have poor motor skills but seeing the games play almost - almost made me want to pick up a sport.

Kuroko no Basuke

We all watched it after the haikyuu withdrawals or at least I did and I'm not ashamed to admit that.I ewould say unlike Haikyuu it is a bit less realisitic but still enjoyabe and follows alot of shounen battle tropes mixed in with basketball which was fun to see

But why were they that tall? I mean I know they are high school basketball students so they are expected to be some level of height but...cmon you mean to tell me that Japan has kids taller than 6'0 walking around everywhere pretending that basketball is the most important thing in their life (Maybe it is..I mean they are high school kids.)But I thought it was sometimes a bit too dramatic and not something I would watch if I wasn't in the unique situation of missing an anime.

Wait..synopsis time: Boy makes deal with devil to live and ends up being a sherlock in Victorian Ipmeralist Britain with the devil (Yes the one from the bible) literally hovering over his shoulder as a butler. And he is an incredible butler.See there a lot of things that would have made me enjoy this. Now let me get to the reason why I did NOT enjoy black butler as much as most people would have.

I do not like the setting.Look I'm very exhausted of seeing Eurocentricm in media that isin't even written by white people.Anime has an White Problem™ and I need that to stop. Why are you as a Japanese mangaka writing about a white boy in a country that wanted to colonise you? That is my critique .It is inherently subjective but it is most importantly MINE and that all that matters.Another problem I had with it is that it is a bit difficult to get into after the second season.I'm autistic.I enjoy a series of events that chronologically occur or at least have a narrative flow to it.I may also be dense or I didn't care for it but either way I ended up getting lost and not being able to finish it.My bad bro.Lastly is the weird parasitic relationship betweel Ciel and Sebastian.I fully understand that the devil is the devil(I have read the bible no need for further lore explaination) but I would wish Ciel wasn't a child. So yeah my reasons to not watch it are entirely subjective however if you are not put off by anything I say, please feel free to watch.I will not judge, mostly.

Synopsis: Guy punches once.Wins. Apparently is able to do this because he did 100 sit ups 100 push ups and ran 10k everyday. You got that?Okay. The problem with the entire thing is that its fun for the first few episodes and then gets insanely boring cause now he's just aurafarming unfortunately(Another unfortunate thing about me is that when I start writing or speaking for long I begin to sound like an adolescent boy).

Look I'm an incredible fan of gloating and showing how OP you are and whatnot but ...If I can't remember the plot of a show I watched 2 years ago then I never bothered looking for another season.I will never watch it again and I am completely content with myself for that.

Another cult that is always trying to lure you in using dumb ass marketing tactics like "Do you have nothing to watch: Try One Piece and if you really don't want to commit to 1000 episodes of mid we have the abridged version that cuts the story down to a whooping 800 episodes."Immedietely no.I have a cousin whose been watching one piece since he was 8 years old. He's 28, married, has a kid and is STILL FUCKING WATCHING ONE PIECE.

Don't know about One Piece? Did you just drop from an asteroid.Unless you're over the age of 40 or just got access to the internet right this instant then don't continue to read this review it will corrupt your poor innocent soul. One Piece is basically "pirates" (who are actually vigilantes) who are looking for a lost treasure buried away by an infamous pirate but throughout the process they encounter authocratic organisations that they resolve. At least it has good anarchy propaganda.

My problem with one piece is simply pace and plot progression.I do not want to die the next day and people have to see a spreadsheet of how I plan to watch every single episode in a year.Thats chud beta behaviour and I am a sigma.I won't even say I hate the fanservice, boobs are top 3 of my favourite things on earth. My gripe with it is just pacing.I just don't care enough.Maybe I'm not woke.Ok you win with the gay stuff.

I will preface this by saying I am NOT an adrenaline junkie.A doctor is psychologically manipulated by a paitent who becomes a serial killer and he is framed but he has to prove it isin't him.I believe.Man this shit was boring as hell and after episode 25 I genuinely stopped watching cause what are we doing brother please I'm BORED AS HELL

I was promised an interesting plot.I got none of that.I was promised an intruiging set of characters I got none of that.I was just bored. The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy was more thought provoking.I swear I wanted to get it but I just couldn't see the hype.I'm sorry guys. When I turn 50 and my life no longer revolve around the phrase 'Carpe Diem' maybe, MAYBE.I'm going to contemplate the thought of rewatching it.But before then, let me enjoy the things I can enjoy and leave those I can't to the people who can.

An incredibly gifted middle schooler is caught in the throes of an exploitative scam artist and they have incredible adventures as they try and help the middle schooler overcome his overt shyness and social anxiety which curbs his insane psychic gifts.

This three season anime is not only a masterpiece on pacing but also has so many enjoyable moments. If you've been reading all of my reviews, you can see the pattern of what I enjoy:A compelling well structured plot, incredible characters and most importantly PROPER PACING.I really enjoyed seeing the character development in each of the characters and it never felt cheaply handled either.I also had so much fun looking at the quirky not so clean animations and I believe they did an incredible jobs on the opening and closing sequences.A well done series.

DanDaDan

Currently : Season 1 : Part 2

My younger cousin was reading the manga in aarly 2024 and begged me to read it and I was like "eh idk" cause it sounded so weird like why should I care that a high school boy's balls were turned into spirit balls by a spirit. It just seemed too much masculine humor for me but watching it was actually cool and has interesting moral dilemmas to contemplate.

That being said my gripe with it is the peak male humor that just surrrounds the entire show.I don't know if it is meant to be meta or not but its just annoying to see an underage girl constantly undressed to her undies all the time.Like no one's moved. If the mangaka has given a specific reason why this is necessary please tell me.Also why's the grandma hot?I love a GILF as much as the next guy but its honestly ridiculus so I hope we get a proper explanation for both.

An alien schools high school children so that they can kill him(Anime needs to release these high school students from the shackles of been the only ones who can save the world when the college students are RIGHT THERE!!)

The show is genuinely good and I like how the series ends despite how lowkey heatbreaking it is.My favourite character was Nagisa cause they were experiencing a lot of Body and gender dysmorphia and that it makes sense.Like hugh school kids do act like that.High school kids can also be assasins man this is anime if you're looking for realism you have the wrong place.

Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer

Currently : Infinity Castle

Child has his whole family assasinated by a specific demon ,has his only remaining relative turned to one and has to both protect her and train himself to kill demons.

Demon slayer is one of those shows that the visuals are just so beautiful you lowkey forget how mid the show is.I agree withe evryone who says that the show is carried by its animation cause as much as the characters and the plot are well written.I can think of shows that are both enjoyable and have an infinitely better plot and they are on my recommendations. Does this mean its not well written? No I actually think its incredibly well written just not unique to its genre.Nothing really is unique in this world but you the individual can add something new to something borrowed.

Jojos Bizarre's Adventures
★★★★☆
Jojos Bizarre's Adventures

Currently : Steel Ball Run

I love Jojo's.Its one of my top 10 favourite animes and if you don't know it it's esensially follows generations of a single family lineage The Joestars through the decades, the beginning being Joseph Joestar, an 18th century aristocrat heir. Each Joestar faces certain tribulations either because of their bloodlines or a series of events that lead up to them using their powers.

It's exciting, daring and every Joestar seems to have two defining traits:Perserverence and a necessity for justice which makes them have their own personal quirks while still maintaining the Joestar essense.I think my favourite parts are Part 3 : Stardust Crusaders, Part 4 : Diamond is Unbreakable, Part 6:Stone Ocean and the highly anticipated Part 7: Steel Ball Run.My least favourite is Part 1 : Phantom Blood and Part 5: Golden Wind. I genuinely wouldn't have finished Part 1 were it not as pivotal to the whole scheme but I did not finish Golden Wind cause I found the story too boring for me unfortunately.

The artstyle evolves as the seasons progress becoming more whimsical as time goes on.I also enjoy the fact that despite the seriousness it is a bizarre adventure and some scenes are definetely out of this world and hilarious.I'd suggest everyone to watch it cause its also well written with character you'll love, characters you'd hate to love and characters you'd love to love.I think my favourite Joestar has to be Jotaro Kujo who is one of the most defining Joestars in the series.GET READY FOR STEEL BALL RUN THAT PREMIERS ON MARCH 19!
