My list of animes was getting long and boring so I decided to break them down in terms of basic genres

Point to note:This isin't an accurate description of how the genres are but a simple categorisation method as opposed to having multiple HTML pages.I value structure and organisation more than accurate labelling.

The Apothecary Diaries

The Apothecary Diaries

Currently : Waiting for Season 3

Who doesn't love slow burn? This series based in Ancient China and is about an apothecary apprentice who gets kidnapped and ends up in the Forbidden Palace (Where the concubines stay.) and recognised for her intelligence and medicinal skill gradually becomes an important asset to the palace.

Maomao without a doubt in my mind is my favorite character in the show. Her intelligence and clearly neurodivergent tendamcies and hyperfixations add a level of endearment I usually don't feel for characters I haven't been watching for long.I don't like to toot my own horn (toot toot!) but she reminds me a lot of myself when I have a subject matter I am focued on (Also on the fact that she deftly ignores anyone's advances to her by overanalysing so that she can't be seen actually fall in love with someone)Her and Jinshi's relationship blossoms beautifully and I can't wait to see what's instore for her.

Dungeon Meshi
★★★☆☆
Dungeon Meshi

Currently : Waiting for Season 2

This is a feel good show based within the dungeon setting that is apparently common in video games?(Guys I just got into video games give me a break.)The main problem in dungeons is that they are so long you end up barely scarping by with limited resources but to combat that the team decides to simply eat the monsters they encounter.Wild but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I watched the first season with my cousin and I wasn't expecting to be as hooked to it as I was.I especially love the gimmick with the dwarf being the main form of fan service. and how diverse the cast is not just in skin types but also body types. It was interesting also to see the worldbuilding cause as I said I'm new to this not true to this. I can't wait for season 2. Its not usually my style but I enjoyed it.

Ouran High School Host Club

Are you looking for a show that is queer, progressive and liberal?Well you've come to the wrong station cause Ouran High School Host Club (OHSHC) is nothing of the sort. But if you're looking for an entertaining romance that will have you push your morals aside for some cackles and sweet romance then you've landed at the right spot.

Despite how problematic the characters can seem to be, Haruhi, the main protagonist who finds herself cosplaying as a dude for the sake of paying off her debts is one of the very liberal voices of reason throughout the show. Also, the rules are don't expect a season two, accept what little you've gained from the show and give up, Seriously just give up and read the manga its just as interesting I promise. Her and and the boys progression in the story is so enjoyabe and complex particularly with the twins and I feel like all the characters were well fleshed out.I think I've watched it a million times and it has never made me giggle less each time.

Peach Girl

Peach Girl

I think y2k seinen is very good at displayig peak ragebait.I don't think a lot can compare to the anger I felt within every episode I was so scared I might accidentally make myself get high blood pressure from the blood coursing through my veins at such breakneck speeds.

Momo...oh my dear momo, you don't deserve anyone who was around you but to be fair you were also incredibly stupid at times. What do you mean that the girl that has decieved you this entire time is actually...deceiving you again? OH THE HORROR. I can't possibly imagine.Genuinely watch it if you are immune to ragebait.I know I'm not.

I think the only reason I watched the show was for the art style and I felt like momo represented me so well.I also have a sort of exterior that many assume that I'm some sort of tough girl but in reality I'm just extremely socially anxious. She has been in my fashion mood board since foever and maybe this year I'll finally make the leap from being basically on default and actually customising my character.

Nana

NANA

Currently : Finished

Another painful heartbreaking one for the books.I dubbed it as queer literature also cause the connotations alone....You can't tell me they were not in love with one another

NANA follows two women with the same name through their early twenties with the narrator being one of the women from the present timeline reminiscing about her dear friend.Nana.It is ..just gut wrenching and beautifully executed. The uncertanity of young adults the mistakes that may or may not impact their lives forever. How even normal people can be cruel to the people around them, leaving scars that may never fade.I loved NANA. Another unfortunate rule about NANA.I think the manga ending is anything we will ever get from the series.I don't expect a reboot,a sequel none of that.I'm simply content with what we have been able to have despite how stomach turning it may feel.

Maid Sama
★★★☆☆
Kaicho Wa Maid Sama

Currently : Finished

Yo this is another one of those "for their times" animes that just has you like "Nigga wtf" at every turn.

Synopsis: Poor girl is school president, poor girl also works in a maid cafe across her neighbourhood cause she doesn't want anyone to find out.Main guy and a few other dudes find out.Shenanigans ensue. Its fun.I mean if you want to turn your brain off for a bit and simply bask in mediocrity then this show is golden (Also inspite of the negative perceptions of mediocrity I truly mean it to decribe how average it is) It also isin't the most progressive so if you're turned off by that then the show isin't for you.

A Sign of Affection
★★★☆☆
A Sign of Affection

Currently : Season 2

A sign of affection is based on a deaf girl who is trying to obviously navigate a world not built by her and ends up having a crush on a guy who enjoys constantly travelling and learning something new everyday. Now that you're all caught up,the anime is really really cute.

I can't lie,I enjoy anything romantic and this anime had everything I needed and it doesn't help that the main girl is absolutely adorable and the main lead is not only hot but also incredibly forward. That said,As much as the plot is intruiging it is not a groundbreaking series in the romance genre. It has all your quintessensial tropes while also ensuring that it remains adorable so if you're looking for something fresh and exciting this isin't for you but if you're looking for something comforting to watch while working or just need a bit more promise in your dating life before once again succumbing to the soul sucking dating apps then this is for you.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

Currently : Finished

I'm due for a rewatch but Saiki K solidified my enjoyment for comedic animes and even comedies in general like I was straight up giggling in each episode. His nonchalant attitude and his very quirky friends I believe the headcannon that all his friends are actually psychic based on their actual quirks in personality. Anyway If you don't know about Saiki.K then crawl out of the hole you came from cause its 2026 and you've been stuck in there since 2000.Its about a psychic boy who tries to hide his powers while also reversing time each year cause an asteroid is going to blow the entire planet to smitherins and he hasn't really figured out how to stop that. How you may ask can a normal psychic be able to stop that? Um cause he's not a normal psychic. He's like an omnipotent god.trapped in the body of a 15 year old

Yeah that's basically the gist in it.My favourite part is when he basically admits to being born biologically a male but realising the misogyny afront in the world basically turns to a boy to deal with less issues which 1. Real and 2.ALLY! He is genuinely one of my top ten favourite anime characters and I look at him fondly,as though he is a grumpy cat who occasionally seeks comfort at my feet.

Dating is Hard for an Otaku!

Currently : Season 2

Has season 2 even come out??Well I don't know but I hope it has cause I've been meaning to watch it.What can I say who doesn't love the rare and unattainable office romance especially one draped in flowery sceneic backdrops of japanese animations. As I said it is an office romance and actually incredibly cute.It follows a girl who decided to date her long time childhood friend (I think I have forgotten the plot my goodness.) cause she only cares about beer and animes which real af girl.I also only care about those two things.

Its again not very groudbreaking in terms of plot and plot development but it was incredibly cute and I am a sucker for anything that involves cute romance shenanigans.I also remember having the fattest crush on the green haired women (I love strict women who are incredibly skilled at their jobs!) and found the characters have their own unique charm to them.

Uramiichi Oniisan!

Uramiichi Oniisan

Currently : Finished,reading the manga

The funniest shit on planet earth and one of the most unique comedic plots I have ever had the fortune of reading. So get this.Uramiichi Oniisan is a single, depressed 28-30 year old former gymnist who becomes a co-host to this child development show and it is clear that not only does he hate his job he also hates his life and the fact that he has no girlfriend,no prospects (I fear he is me and I am him) and he only cares about maintaining his physique. His co-hosts are also so engaging and funny and I do not even know if season 2 is happening but my god you need to watch this show.

Uraamichi himself is relatively tall, attractive and has a decent job and still can't get laid? It's over for the rest of us its actually never been as over as it is now.But the fact that he can't get some isin't even the butt of the joke. Its that he is constantly being told to do the most within the show.I was cackling so hard when I watched this show that my grandma thought I was either going mad or on weed.Like it is so hilarious you actually need to watch this show and read the manga cause the second season aint coming

Aggretsuko
★★★★☆
Aggretsuko

Currently : Season 5

I did not know she was a part of the sanrio family I just saw it on netflix and said "shi, might as well" cause I had absolutely nothing to watch.Aggretsuko follows Retsuko a late 20s office worker who is juggling her day to day life while having not so subtle anger issues and pent up frustrations over her aging mother whose constantly trying to set her up with a potential marital suitor so she goes to the Karaoke and lets out her pent out rage by singing hardcore metal.I mean she's a pro at it.

I liked the show mostly because it does show a day in the life of an office worker in cooperate japan and how god-awful it really is not just tehre but EVERYWHERE.Not only that I also enjoy Retsuko's day to day struggles from finding a potential parter,to her job to even struggling to move ahead. As I have recently joined the cooperate workforce I cannot tell you how depressing it is and how a work life balance is so hard to maintain when you physically just cannot deal with another day.But the plot and the romance and her growt is not only super intresting but incredibly motivational.

Tomoe is so hot my goodness I was sqealing when he first appeared on my screen. This series is one of my comfort shows for one reason only, its captivating. The art style, the plot, is so y2k in the best way possible.I have very little to say about it except just grab your favourite snacks and watch the first three episodes then you'll know how enjoyable it really is.

Ooku:The Inner Chambers
★★★★☆
Ooku:The Inner Chambers

Currently : Finished

The plot! Like I would have never pcicked up this period drama were it not for its very interesting plot! Ooku is based on the isolationist period of Japan where I believe little is known about what went on within the island and the mangaka created a premise where during this time a deadly disease that only affected men ravaged the entire island and it got so bad that a former patriachial society was forced to turn matriachial which led to the most interesting romantic plots in my entire time watching anime.Like who would'nt be gripped by that plot after hearing all that?

The romance is heartbreaking and is filled with a lot of angst however I believe that it is a glimpse into not only how Japan's society works but also one of the most instresting ways in how a formerly patriachial society transitions to matriachial and what social norms that someone living in a patriachial society would not have realised unless placed in this unique situation. Its amazing how also realistic everything seems to be and it remains one of those shows I recommend to people who want to get into anime but aren't as interested in stereotypical anime they may be suggested

Bungo Stray Dogs
★★★☆☆
Bungo Stray Dogs

Currently : Season 5

To cut a long story short, orphaned boy discovers he has powers and joins a detective agency to help solve crimes and whatnot while an even bigger plot is on the horizon as the seasons continue. You got that? Great.(Its lowkey giving Oliver Twist but I am not very mad at that)

I watched Bungo Stray Dogs cause of the characters (a rarity for me,I am a very plot centric person) especially since they are named after authors.I already have beef with Osamu Dazai personally but I was looking forward to see how these characters will esensially be morphed and live up to their names and...It was ayt I guess.I watched this in late 2022 and reached season 3, I believe and I still do plan to rewatch it but time to me isin't what matters most to me rather it is if the plot retained even in my head and based on my recollection.Nothing stuck so I don't think the plot was gripping honestly.

The only plot point I can remember is a man with money...so ....yeah .I'll rewatch it and maybe rethink my choices but for now thats a no.

Blue Period

Blue Period

Another one of those:I found it on netflix and decided why not.Blue Period follows Yatora, a boy who has lacks a certain ambition towards anything. Not in a depressing way but more listless and until he sees the spark of a queer student for art he delves into it and forms a deep bond with art

I'm a sucker for stories written by artists about art.I'm not very good at it but I enjoy studying it and my friend who is an artist constantly invites me to art gatherings with other artists and exhibitions and I guess I know now enough about art that I can discuss elementary aspects of it anyway the point is I love art and I loved this series. It's like a love letter to art.I feel like when artists write or talk about their art its almost like a soliloquy. The art style is also refreshing while been melanchonic in a way which I think is beautiful. The point is.I enjoyed it, ALOT.

Sign me up for any musical anime.I live for musicals.I breathe for them I love them.As a person who grew up listening to musicals on the regular when I saw that the show follows two girls and their musical journey (brilliant segue I know) I just knew that the show spoke to my inner disney child.

Carole and Tuesday act 1 was the most interesting to me in comparison to act 2 but I still enjoyed both very much.I think seeing the underdogs try and fight in a world dominated by AI (damn who wrote this, they should show me the lottery ticket I need to buy). But this doesn't mean other artists exclusively use AI but rather use it in tandem with their own set of skills. The show is a fun and heavy hearted one that does have a level of finality when you watch the end.I loved it.I am still the only superfan of the Carole and Tuesday fanclub so please watch it.

Space Cowboys finding fugitives but instead become a mismatched mess of vigilantes that eventually hits a climax.Literally thats the show.I loved Cowboy Bebop.I was well structured, did not over or under pace and incredibly heartbreaking.I cannot express to you about how much those characters mean to me.

This is usually the show that is recommended by dudebros who are pseudo intellectual but if you don't interact with the fanbase I believe you are going to have a FANTASTIC TIME watching this show.I think Faye has got to be my favourite on the show both because of her situation and also because I like hot women, sue me.

Michiko no Hatchin

I hate HATE when hot women are also pick me's. Michiko no Hatchin is basically that.A woman travelling throughout Latin America with a child her ex boyfriend abandoned to an abusive family AFTER he abandoned her btw to find him and they can be one big happy family running away from the cops cause she's a fugitive who did a prison break.Yeah it's that intense.

I was constantly telling her in my head after the end of every episode "That nigga don't deserve you."Cause she's bad AF and has to deal with a rusty, crusty, unemployed scammer of a man who people talk about like he's Jesus Christ when at BEST he's semi-charismatic and only two people on the show saw him for who he is throughout and one of them was his CHILD!

Anyways the series gave me a glimpse of LATAM that I had never seen.As much as I had read about LATAM and how diverse it was I didn't realise how true that was till the small glimpse of it I saw.I am unsure of whether the animation matches the scenery but if it does I have to try and find myself touring the continent cause its truly truly beautiful.I also loved the characters and the glow in them. Its always beautiful to see POC characters represented WELL with DEFINING ETHNIC FEATURES and not just a Japanese man who 'APPARENTY' has blonde hair and blue eyes.Really stunning work please watch it.

Food Wars

I can't remember much about where this statement is circulating but someone said "If you can make it through the first episode of food wars you can make it through anything in life."And that's accurate.Leave alone 18 years of schooling and 4 years of higher education get someone to watch food wars episode one and if they make it,they can adapt to anything in life.

Food wars is basically hentai with food.Like people cook food so good they get orgasms. And there competitions for it.I'm not even kidding I wish I was but I am not and its almost hilarious if you forget that half the people you see who end up naked are underage. And I hate to be a keyboard warrior but this concept could EASILY fit in a culinary college where EVERYONE is a legal ADULT.

I dropped it after season 4 cause after that food competition I genuinely couldn't bring myself to care any further.

It was boring as hell thats why its getting two stars. The main characters were boring ,the plot was boring and the only thing keeping me from switching it off was the fact that I thought the twelve episode show would get better. It didn't.It never does Ilenya why do you keep torturing yourself?

The concept of having the Chinese zodiacs as humans and making them a clan that has toxic systemic practices put in place to maintain the hierachy and putting all that within the main plot that is a recently orphaned girl who ends up leaving with the outcasts of the zodiacs while she manages to struggle with loss and love is crazy. What's crazier was how I sat through it and was bawling throughout each episode.

I didn't know it at the time I was watching it but thinking about how comforting the show was after a tragic life bending incident in my life I viewed Tohru as kinder and more strong willed that I wish I could be at times. It's a heartbreaking show with a carthatic ending. Some relationships are weird cause this is a rebooted y2k show that has weird age gap relationships so I'm just warning you.And also a lot of trigger warnings before you watch this.I'm telling you this cuts really deep and don't go watching it with a heavy heart cause its going to make carrying that heart even heavier.

Kaguya-Sama:Love is War

Currently : Season 5

Romantic Comedy for the WIN! Love is war is just one of those series that pperfectly blends hilarity and plot progression. So the gist is the school president and vice president have a crush on one another but are trying to get the other to confess as a sort of 'gotcha' moment which puts them in incredibly unrealistic scenarios that just make you giggle.Mind you they're doing mental acrobatics with one another while holding the facade of calm and nonchalance,

My favourite character in the show was Chika.Man her personality range is so well done and like she's top ten gfvaourite anime characters.I think she stole the show for me and I mean this in the most literal sense like she's just an incredible character in the show and adds so much life and warmth to the series.I think she managed to captivate everyone's attention cause I believe she is the most popular character of the franchise.

Another one of those gay nigga hours with gay people doing gay ass shit(good for them, good for them.) but this time its on a skateboard and as usual animes have teenagers beefing with people twice their age for some weird reason.Anyway I really enjoyed my glimpse into the life of skateboarder.I'm not a skateboarder and don't even frequently skateboard but I usually go to this artsy spot in my neighbourhood where them(The skaters, also some gays)and the artsy guys in the city have dubbed their spot and its pretty cool I can't lie.

I think it was a fun watch. The scenes lietrally felt like life and death at the time even though you'd categorise them at worst as poor sportmanship behaviour but it was still a fun watch.I especially liked an episode where Rei was coming to terms that the person who he had basically mentored on something was quickly outpacing him in spite of years of effort and yeah? That's really painful to deal with. He's a better man than me. I'm lighting everyone up it'd look like a new year celebration. .Yeah.Thats generally it.Just an average feel good show.

A spy fakes being a family man to get information on the country he resides for the sake of world peace I guess and gets an assassin (who he doesn't know the entire time he is an assasin) as a wife and adopts a daughter to gain access to the school where elites of the society reside to further infiltrate into the society. Also the daughter he adopts is a mind reader so is very well aware of how fucked up the dynamic is.

It sounds awful but genuinely its a feel good show that even non anime watchers have watched (mostly because its on netflix.) but its fun, lighthearted and just something to put on after a long hard day of slaving for billionaires or being exploited by the average capitalist. The only reason I'd say its not a 5/5 is bevcause its just not as compelling.I'm not bating my breathe waiting for the next season. It often actually escapes my mind until I see it on my netflix.

The Great Pretender

I loved the great pretender and I constantly tell everyone to watch it.It follows a Japanese scam artist who is scouted by an international scam group to scam incredibly wealthy yet morally ambigous people (I say the term loosely, there is no moral ambiguity on the crimes wealthy people commit). And each season is not only in a new destination but also the main characters' progression is so fun to watch and the scams too. We cannot foreget about how it seems like they'll do something before the carpet is removed underneath us and a surprising twist occurs.

I think the animation alone sold me.Man it was so cool to see the vibrant colours.I'm unsure as to whether Netfix Japan has an in house animation team or do they outsource but I think its one of the most unique animation designs I've seen in the industry. Also the plot progression is very intriguing with new details being added to well fleshed characters and the series is just CHEFS KISS.PLEASE PLEASE WATCH THE GREAT PRETENDER.

I saw someone a week ago talking about what's the point of the main character in the show and you know what? They were real af cause truly what's the point of him.Narration?Explainations? A anonymous third character could fill the void.

I'm yapping so much I haven't even gotten to the crux of the plot. The plot is students go to an elite gambling school to learn how to maneover business tactics they would need in the real world which honestly its just capitalists being taught how to be the better scammer:High School Edition. As I have constantly mentioned my pet peeve with anime is when the kids are underage!! Don't show me someone fondling their boobs when their legal age is 16!! Its just WEIRD BRO!

If you can get over that then the plot is good.I'm unsure if season 3 was released or it was cancelled cause netflix duh but you should watch it.

My baby Kotaro does not deserve anything he has been through. Its sickenenly painful what he has ended up going through on his own and how strong willed he is and how he has began to trust the world and the people in it despite the hardships he has had to face oh my days its actually extremely painful and I wouldn't wish on anyone in this planet to undergo the same pain he went through.

Absolute cinema. They released propaganda that more men need to be househusbands and I fell for it hard.So the guy is a former yakuza henchman that falls in love with a workaholic civilian and he quits his job and basically becomes a househusband who takes care of her needs. His for mer job isin't just a thing of the past cause nothing ever is.

I loved loved loved it especially the manga-esque animations which at first I thought I wouldn't but it really grew onto me cause it added a kick to any comedic effects and overdramatised version of things.I believe everyone should watch it so that they can too live in a fantasy where a yakuza man is not mysognistic but takes on women dominated roles in the household cause that's what you're NEVER going to get in reality.

Moriarty the Patriot

Currently : Part 2

Class consiousness unlocked.Down with the bourgeoisie. This is an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes but made into an anime and it is good.It follows on the perspective of Moriarty his origins and what not and I cannot lie that was very interesting cause it unlocks the stories of class struggles and If you've seen my review on Great Expectations by Charles Darwin you'd know that I love understanding class dynamics and struggles.

Despite Sherlock Holmes being My Favourte Character of All Time™,he felt a bit flat here.Granted its an adaptation it goes without saying who Sherlock Holmes is but to me he just didn't feel as sherlockian as I wanted him to be.I don't think thats particularly anyone's fault cause I came into the series with an idea of him in my head and the author obviously wanted to steer his character to behave a certain way and creative liberties especially with beloved characters are always fun to see but it didn't just click with me and that's okay.
